LOLA is a Barcelona and Lisbon based practise dedicated to contemporary architecture and design issues. It was founded in 2003 by Rute Brazão, Riccardo Cavaciocchi and Sandra Ribeiro. Since the inception the company has developed projects of different tipes and scales, from objects to interior design, facilities and housing buildings. Working on an international level from its start, LOLA developed projects in places such as Barcelona, Lisbon, Lecce, Riyhad, São Paulo and New York. Since every project requires a different output, LOLA takes special care in organizing the team that produces the input. The work that as been developed relies on a collaborative design method, engaging clients, collegues and specialist consultants in the creative process. In each of their projects, LOLA seek to merge context, technique and esthetical influences into an innate and beautiful whole.
Peter Veenstra to build dome of plants at Design Indaba venue in Cape Town
Dutch landscape architect Peter Veenstra has revealed plans to build a plant-covered bamboo sphere in Cape Town's Luthuli Plaza, providing an extra venue for next year's Design Indaba conference.
Veenstra, co-founder of Rotterdam-based LOLA Landscape Architects, was invited by Design Indaba founder Ravi Naidoo to develop a proposal to transform the elevated plaza, which connects the Artscape Theatre Centre – where the conference takes place – with the city's transport hub.
He responded with a design for a 50-metre-wide dome, which will function as an events space for the city's communities. It will also respond to Cape Town's ongoing water crisis, by showing how plants can be cultivated without wasting water.

Lecce, Italy – Design studio LOLA – Local Office for Large Architecture – has renovated the Centre for Paper Restoration in Italy. With features such as a slatted upper floor that lets through plenty of light, this calm and tranquil space is Full of Grace.The centre is a place where ancient paper, such as manuscripts, books and wallpapers are stored. To retain the emotional attachment of the space LOLA used tactile materials such as local stone. A staircase, for instance, seems to float, while large tanks made of the stone, are used to wash paper, brushes and tools.As LS:N Global explores in the Full of Grace Inspire, the resulting aesthetic is clean and thoughtful – highlighting the value of the products.
